Lá Fhéile Bríde
Celebrating St Brigid’s Day
This week we marked St Brigid’s Day with wonderful activities and creative work across the school. St Brigid’s Day, celebrated on 1 February, honours the feast of St Brigid, one of Ireland’s most loved saints and a symbol of spring, hope and protection. Traditionally, people weave St Brigid’s crosses from rushes or straw and hang them in their homes as a sign of blessing and good luck for the year ahead.
Our junior and senior infants had a lovely time working with their buddies to create wonderful art pieces, full of colour and creativity, they also used rushes to make wonderful crosses. These collaborative projects were a joy to see and reflected the spirit of the season.
Our sixth class pupils also made beautiful St Brigid’s crosses. They shared their skills and knowledge by demonstrating this tradition to the younger children in Ms Marron’s room, helping everyone understand how and why the crosses are made. We all learnt a lot about St Brigid and why she is celebrated across Ireland each year.
Well done to all our pupils for their enthusiasm and creativity during our St Brigid’s Day celebrations!
